Should I beta test my course? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I get this question a lot and the answer is a little complicated.✨
.
.
I like beta testing. I do. I even USED to do it myself. But I’ve switched to something even better: the founding member approach. And while I still like beta testing courses in some situations, I am 10/10 obsessed with using “founding members.”💕
.
.
So, what’s the difference?
.
.
Beta testers usually don’t pay for your course. You also typically are the one to find and recruit them✨
.
.
This means that while beta testers can tell you a ton of valuable information about how helpful your content is, they don’t say much about the effectiveness of your marketing. They also don’t give you “wallet proof”—aka will people actually take out their credit card for this?💵
.
.
The founding member approach can also be called doing a soft launch. With this approach you typically offer your product at a competitive price and rely mainly on organic marketing for promoting your product.✨
.
.
Right now, you are looking for proof that your course has an audience and is appealing to those it is meant to serve. The goal here is not to massively scale your course. That comes later. A successful founding member launch gives you a foundation to build on, without risking tons of money, time, and resources.✨
.
.
The best part about this? You don’t have to have a completed course to get started. I’ll get into preselling more later, but when you offer a founding member package, I typically recommend teaching live or dripping out your content week by week.✨
.
.
In other words, just like you wouldn’t complete a client project without taking at least some money up front you don’t need to create content that people haven’t paid for yet. ✨
